hard times

Just what I need - a cigar that will last all football season. Time to stock up on butane and ashtrays!

A 1337 H@xx0r (that's elite hacker to you lusers who can't read 1337speak) that wrote one of the MSBlaster variants is going to jail today. Meanwhile, I roam free, perpetrating this hack of a web page. If making workers' computers unproductive is a crime, EBay had better watch their backs. They're responsible for millions of lost work hours weekly.

Howza bout a little KISS? Accent on little here. If it's too loud, you're too tall!

Click here to take some of the pressure off. You've earned it!

Are you Scottish? Or a wannabe? One of these manly kilts is just what you need! They even come in camo for the rednecks.

Blogger still doesn't work in Firebird....oddly enough it works fine in regular Mozilla. As you can see by the new little icons on the right, I've been fooling around with the GIMP, a "Graphic Image Manipulation Program" for Linux that's a pretty good FREE replacement for Photoshop. More annoying graphics to come!

CORRECTION: It's the GNU Image Manipulation Program. Sorry, open source zealots.

Who do you love? The Iraqi Information Minister? Arnold? Personally, I love the SCO Information Minister. "God willing, SCO will not be defeated. SCO has now already achieved victory - apart from some technicalities."

Grrr... the rocket scientists at Blogger did something to their HTML yesterday and now I can't blog in Mozilla. Guess I'll try downloading the latest build and see if that helps.

Pedophile priest sent to meet his old boss, courtesy of a fellow lifer.

Curses, I've been wrongfully accused by Mookie. He should know all us rednecks look alike and I don't even have a pickup truck! Well, at the moment anyway.

bomb texas

Religious extremists invade Alabama's capitol, alleged humor columnist attempts to reuse tired old Jeff Foxworthy jokes in hopes of getting a laugh. Fails miserably.

Seen the Star Wars Kid yet? You can see the original video plus tons of remixes here. While you're there, check out Pink Five, it's funny if you saw the original Star Wars.

I've been in love with Linda Cardellini ever since Freaks and Geeks - now she's gonna be on ER! Woohoo!

Cop on 'Queer Eye' in Trouble With Boss. Uhh, not according to your article he isn't.

A year ago next week, Warren Zevon was told by doctors he had 3 months to live. It looks like the man behind "Werewolves of London" and "Excitable Boy" is fading fast, but he managed to put out one more album while he was still around. He'll be missed after he's gone.

You wouldn’t like me when I’m angry!

Whoa! Check out the unit on the Hulk! I think he doctored his photos for the chat rooms.

Awesome story about a little guy who got pushed around by Microsoft 3 years ago and fired them. More and more of these real world success stories are coming out every day. Maybe M$ and the RIAA will read this and get a clue....naaah, probably not.

Have you heard about meetup.com? It's a great idea....people use the Internet to find and meet with people with the same interests. The twist is that they meet in real life - how weird is that? It's becoming a political tool (the Demos seem to dominate at the moment), but there's also lots of dog owners, racin fans, webloggers, and witches signed up. Who knows, this "real life" stuff might have potential!

Today seems to be "bacon as art" day in the news, not to be confused with this site. All this bacon talk reminds me, I started back on Atkins yesterday, and damn I'm hungry! Throw me a chicken wing!

It's not a tumor!

Who else you gonna vote for? You can say lots of things about California, but it's not boring.

This link shows the amazing power of Photoshop (link lifted from Broadatbat).

Werk it, werk it!

I saw this story and knew right away I had to use it as an excuse to bring back the Hard Times Dancers.

Germans seem to be losing body parts left and right today. Is it the heat?

Another action packed Friday night - I removed MSBlaster (LovSAN?) from my Dad's PC, then installed SpyBot and got rid of all the Gator crap that was running in the background. Throw on Firebird and it's ready to surf again!

I've been in serious geek mode this week....in addition to hacking up the HTML on this page (a testament to my artistic retardation), I got a new book and I'm gonna learn PHP (no, really, I mean it this time. stop laughing!). I needed a web server to test code on, so I loaded up my spare box with Debian Linux, Apache, MySQL, and PHP. It was fairly easy since I roughly followed the recipe used in a SecurityFocus article (Parts 1 and 2) less the Snort and ACID stuff. Debian is not the easiest Linux to install, but once it's on the apt-get package system makes installing stuff a breeze. Once it's all installed, by far the biggest PITA of the whole affair is getting PHP to work with Apache. It's kind of a hit or miss thing, and if you miss you can spend hours fiddling with config files till it finally works.

Once it was all installed and running, I installed Webmin, which is a great way to remotely manage Linux/BSD machines. There was a problem though....the network nazis at the big corporation I work for only allow web traffic (ports 80 and 443) to and from the Internet. No SSH, no FTP, no Webmin on some random port. The solution was to have Webmin and the web server listen on ports 443 and 80 - voila, I can access and control the server from the confines of work! Till I'm caught, anyway.

Today I got an accidental random hit from Broad at Bat. It was a happy accident, cause she has some pretty cool insights into how women (and men) tick. Plus she has some shexy feet.

I'm fiddling with the layout, but you know that already. Bear with me, it's a work in progress.

A gay guy comes out of the closet and confesses that they're not all fabulous like on TV. I especially like the term "glamour homos".

Welcome back Mookie, we missed ya!

The first Microsoft RPC worm, MSBlaster, is on the loose. We should know soon how bad it's gonna get. More here.

A perl geek decides to buy SCO and avoid any legal entanglements....check it out, it's funny. Also, check out his hit counter - at 10 this morning (pre-Slashdot) it was at 260.

Everyone knows that chimps can't program. They're too busy working the help desk at AOL.

In other news, the Chinese aren't gettin any. Couple this with their huge military and nuclear capabilities, and you might have cause for concern.

Britain's nekkid hiker is revealed. His ambition is to "walk the length of the country in the nude". Follow your dreams, dude!

Well some companies are finally getting around to counter-suing SCO over their ongoing bullshit. For those of you who aren't addicted to Slashdot, basically SCO is claiming that they own the rights to a certain flavor of UNIX, and that IBM used parts of it in Linux, so that means SCO owns Linux now, and everyone who uses Linux should pay them, especially IBM. Um, I don't pay for Windows, why am I gonna pay you more than a decent PC costs for the privilege of trying to run Linux? Apparently their strategy is to avoid bankruptcy through extortion. Now Red Hat has sued SCO, and SuSE is backing them up, and today IBM unleashed their lawyers. My hope is that SCO is revealed for the weasels that they are, driven out of business, and Linux is allowed to continue growing and getting better without this cloud overhead.

Novell bought Ximian. Not sure if that's a good thing or a bad thing, only time will tell. It's not real surprising considering how good Ximian's desktop and Evolution have gotten with the latest releases.

Without a doubt, the high point of my RTDA trip was the CAO cigars party Sunday night at the Wildhorse Saloon, a big tourist bar in downtown Nashville. CAO is based in Nashville, so the cigars and liquor flowed freely, they had 2 live bands, and there were even girls dancin on tables. I got to chat with the bikini model from the Griffo's booth and showed her the proper way to cut and light her free cigars. It was an educational evening. (photos courtesy of me and Jack Daniels)

Flavagate continues to unfold. Will American Idol dump the fat guy for the little gay fella? Stay tuned!

Did y'all hear about the Burqa Band from Kabul? Gotta love the bad girls...rock on!

No updates lately cause I was at RTDA. Had a great time, pics coming soon.
