Belated Happy 21st Birthday to the Bush twins! If you're ever in Charlotte, the margaritas and Marlboros are on me! (Yeah, I know that's not Barbara on the bottom)|||85224599|||11/28/2002 02:53:00 PM|||Skillzy|||Zsa Zsa in a coma, I know, I know, it's serious. While looking for the lyrics link, I found a place with Smiths and Morrisey ringtones you can program into your Nokia phone, as if the holidays weren't depressing enough already.|||85224185|||11/28/2002 02:49:00 PM|||Skillzy|||Another great invention that I should've come up with - the vibrating tampon. Remember, ladies, it's just for relieving cramps, "Don't use tampons between menstrual periods"!|||85224030|||11/19/2002 04:51:00 PM|||Skillzy|||The Sims Online seems to be in the news today. AlterNet is trying to arrange boycotts of the "virtual McDonald's" in the game and Newsweek kinda gives an overview of what it will be like. Wired did a story back in November that hinted that the game is meant to be a kind of souped-up chat room. I play tested it for about a week before I went to Alabama and had a great time...I wore a kilt, had some great roomies (which was just dumb luck considering we just kind of bumped into each other), and built a very cool haunted Scottish castle with all kinds of cool stuff thanks to a bug that was allowing us to make tons of cash. We partied, we hung out, we "interacted", and there was no pressure to climb on that "gotta make money, gotta get stuff, gotta level up" treadmill that every EverQuest and Asheron's Call player knows all too well. Then I went to Alabama and they wiped the server while I was gone, erasing my castle and my stuff in an instant. My roomies were scattered to the four winds and they fixed the easy money bug. So, I kinda lost interest. I think I'll try it again soon cause they're making changes daily as they get closer to shipping. Hopefully it will become the first MMORPG that's not limited to D&D geeks.|||84784206|||11/19/2002 11:57:00 AM|||Skillzy|||Get your glass dildos here! Some old squid has finally got around to writing a book about Admiral Rickover's nuclear-powered spy toy. The site for the book has a page about how us bubbleheads qualified to earn our coveted "silver dolphins". The best book I've read so far about the chills and thrills of Cold War submarine service is Blind Man's Bluff - definitely check that one out if you get a chance.|||84642296|||11/16/2002 07:55:00 PM|||Skillzy|||I was too busy to post that day, but P. J. O'Rourke had a birthday last Thursday. If you don't know who he is, he's one funny mofo. He was at the National Lampoon back when it was funny (he left in '81), and went on to write some hilarious books, as well as hundreds of articles for Automobile, Rolling Stone, and other magazines. Thanks to Modern Manners, I'm the suave, cultured fellow that I am today. Happy Birthday, P. J. !|||84641941|||11/16/2002 07:48:00 PM|||Skillzy|||From the "Do We Really Need Both?" The Alabama is a restored old theatre with a balcony, and there aren't too many bad seats (I had a good one). They also have cheap liquor, but good luck getting anywhere near the bars. Laura Cantrell and her all-geek band opened the show, they were OK, but I'm not crazy about the acoustic country ballad stuff. The couple of uptempo songs they played were really good. Elvis and the lads were incredible, they played for almost 2 1/2 hours nonstop, 3 multi-song encores. They played a ton of songs spread out over a multitude of albums, all my favorites from When I Was Cruel, Spike, Blood & Chocolate, and of course the old stuff like Alison and Pump It Up. The only gripe I had was the final song they played, a weird, overdramatic rendition of "I Want You", complete with creepy lighting...kind of a downer. This concert edges out Mojo Nixon and the Toadliquors' 1994 appearance at Zydeco as my all time favorite Birmingham concert. Elvis is the man and a musical genius, if you ever get a chance to go see him, do it! Here's a real review of a show on the tour from Rhino. |||84326374|||11/05/2002 08:12:00 AM|||Skillzy|||The man who played everyone's favorite effeminate whiny villian is dead. The music was great, and so were the boiled peanuts! got bluegrass?|||84059239|||11/01/2002 10:09:00 PM|||Skillzy|||I'll be gone to Alabama till the middle of next week, going to see Elvis while I'm there (can't wait).
